Upcoming Municipal Election
The next General Municipal Election for Prince Edward Island will take place on Monday, November 2, 2026. This election will determine the Mayor and six Councillors for the Town of Alberton. Municipal elections are held every four years.
If a vacancy occurs between general elections, a by-election will be held within six months to fill the position. For more detailed information, visit the Elections PEI Website.
Election Process
Mayor: The Mayor is elected from a separate ballot, and the candidate with the most votes wins.
Councillors: All Councillors are elected at large, with the six candidates who receive the most votes securing the seats.

Eligibility to Vote
- Be a Canadian citizen.
- Be at least 18 years old on or before election day.
- Have been a resident of PEI for at least six months before election day.
- Be an ordinarily resident in the municipality on election day.
Candidate Eligibility
- Be a Canadian citizen.
- Be at least 18 years of age on or before election day.
- Have been ordinarily resident in the municipality for at least six months prior to election day.
- Not be disqualified by holding certain roles (such as being a judge, MP, MLA, or municipal employee without leave of absence).
